"Those who must select a new CEO—namely, the search committee of the board (the outgoing CEO, if he or she is in good standing, and three to five board members...)—know what's at stake."

Leadership in an organization is what makes most of the difference between success and failure. Learning this early in life is what launched Bret Dalton on a lifelong study of leadership.
OUR HISTORY
Before forming Dalton Group, LLC, Bret Dalton spent a decade conducting senior level executive searches as a principal in one of the nation’s leading retained search firms.
In 1994, Bob Dingman began recruiting Bret to join his boutique search firm, and he committed to mentoring Bret over the next several years until Bob’s planned retirement. At that time, Bob had over 30 years of experience and was ranked as one of the top ten recruiters in the nation.
Bob’s interest in Bret was due in large part to Bret’s professional experience, including his years as an Associate Professor of Leadership at West Point and his work with senior leaders in our national government and military services.
Desiring to continue his focus on leaders and leadership, Bret readily signed on and began learning the trade from one of its best.
In the earliest days, Bret’s assignments included senior level assignments for several Christian ministries and Christian owned businesses—American Bible Society, FutureSource, Opportunities International, George Fox University, and others.
These early experiences gave Bret an appreciation for the incredible return on invested resources that results when a dedicated and competent search firm partners with an intentional Board or CEO. Making this leadership difference in Kingdom organizations became Bret’s drive.
So, in 2005, Bret established Dalton Group, LLC, with an intentional focus on Christian organizations—educational institutions, para-church ministries, and churches.
Shortly after this formation, the first project handled by Dalton Group, LLC, was a “repeat” client—Prison Fellowship, where Bret had previously led the Board through a lengthy CEO search, and was invited back to serve the new CEO in his efforts to recruit a new CFO. Then, the following year we were back again to assist the CEO in selecting a new COO.

I have enjoyed working with Bret, and appreciated his diligence every time we’ve undertaken a search. His firm has helped us significantly in building our leadership team at Prison Fellowship. Dalton Group's work is critical to what is our most important resource: people.
