Top CEOs Name Best Leadership Books

In tumultuous times, CEOs are looking for timeless advice.

Asked by The Wall Street Journal to name the business book that has done the most to help them with their job as CEO, executives tended to shun fads in favor of classic advice from the likes of management gurus such as Peter Drucker and Michael Porter. Other favorites included works that distilled long-term lessons such as Jim Collins's "Built to Last" and "Good to Great," and Doris Kearns Goodwin's "Team of Rivals," a history of the Lincoln cabinet. The CEOs who responded are members of The Wall Street Journal's CEO Council, a group of about 100 top CEOs first convened by the Journal in November.
